Sandra Moore

Sandra has been working as an artist and illustrator since completing her degree in Fine Art at St Martin’s College, Lancaster in 2007. Prior to her degree course she spent a year studying Textile and Surface Design at the University of Bolton. Her images, both in colour and black and white, are noted for their painstaking attention to detail and this website showcases a small sample of past commissions and also shows some of her more recent artwork.

Starting out as a self taught artist Sandra has been accepting commissions for her work since her teens. She initially worked as an artist for a small cottage industry then went on to work as a supervisor for an art and craft based Government scheme, a handicraft instructor for Social Services, a photographer and then finally helped run a small public relations and marketing company until deciding to return to developing her painting and drawing.

Sandra now lives and works as an artist in the small hamlet of Yealand Storrs close to the Lancashire/Cumbria border. She has undertaken numerous private commissions including landscapes, buildings, animals, portraits, floral art, limited edition prints and book illustration. Her work is highly detailed and she uses various mediums such as gouache, watercolour, pen and ink, pencil crayon and mixed media.

Sandra is inspired by a love of drawing, the process of mark making and seeing shape, form and texture appear - a visual sensitivity. It is this process, the treatment of the paper and the application of the medium, that often takes second place to the subject and likewise it is these elements of her work that initially capture and engage the viewer.

"Insight is accompanied by a sense of surprise. What has been closed is suddenly disclosed. It entails genuine perception, seeing anew. He who thinks that we can see the same object twice has never seen."
Herschel (1907-1972)
